PSYCHEDELIC PREPARATION

You May Feel Ready for the Experience — but Unsure How to Prepare for What It Could Bring Up

You do not need to have everything figured out. Preparation can begin with what is already present.

01

Hopes, intentions, and expectations

Clarify what is drawing you toward the experience and what you hope to understand or explore.

02

Anxiety or uncertainty

Make space for concerns about what may arise without needing to predict or control the experience.

03

Emotional and relational patterns

Notice recurring themes, relationships, or unresolved material that may feel especially relevant right now.

04

Personal history

Reflect on past experiences that may shape how you approach the experience.

05

Readiness and meaning

Explore questions about why this experience matters to you and what you may be seeking.

06

Support afterward

Think ahead about how you want to care for yourself and make space for integration after the experience.

You do not need to have everything figured out before beginning. Preparation is about becoming more aware of what is already present and approaching the experience with greater clarity, care, and self-understanding.

WHAT WE CAN EXPLORE TOGETHER

What We Can Explore Together Before Your Experience

Preparation is personal. The focus of counselling depends on your history, current circumstances, and what feels most important as you approach the experience.

Clarifying Your Intention

Explore what is drawing you toward the experience and what you hope to understand, examine, or make space for.

Expectations and Uncertainty

Look at the hopes, fears, assumptions, and expectations that may be shaping how you imagine the experience will unfold.

Emotional Readiness

Make space for anxiety, vulnerability, unresolved emotions, or other material that feels important to acknowledge beforehand.

Personal History and Patterns

Reflect on relationships, recurring patterns, past experiences, or significant life themes that may be relevant to what you are carrying into the experience.

Grounding and Self-Awareness

Strengthen your ability to notice emotional and bodily responses with greater awareness and less pressure to immediately interpret or change them.

Planning for Integration

Consider how you will create time, support, and space afterward to reflect on what emerged and begin making sense of the experience.

WHO THIS SUPPORT IS FOR

Psychedelic Preparation May Be Right for You If…

You may be preparing for an upcoming psychedelic experience and want a more thoughtful, psychologically grounded way to approach it.

01

You are preparing for a retreat or planned experience

You want space to reflect before the experience rather than only focusing on logistics.

02

You want to clarify your intentions

You have a sense of why the experience matters, but want to understand that motivation more clearly.

03

You are feeling anxious or uncertain

You want support with the fears, questions, or emotional activation that may be coming up beforehand.

04

You are carrying unresolved material

Personal, relational, or emotional themes feel important to explore before the experience.

05

You value a reflective, depth-oriented approach

You are looking for space to explore meaning, patterns, emotions, and inner experience without prescriptive guidance.

You do not need to arrive with a perfectly formed intention or a clear idea of what you want the experience to mean. Preparation can begin with uncertainty.

WHY WORK WITH GAIA

Preparation That Goes Deeper Than a Checklist

Psychedelic preparation at Gaia is grounded in psychotherapy, not just information gathering or intention setting.

Working with Priscila gives you space to explore the emotional, relational, symbolic, and somatic dimensions of what you may be bringing into the experience.

20 Years of Clinical Experience

Priscila Coleff, MA, RCC brings two decades of counselling experience to the work, with a depth-oriented and trauma-informed approach to complex emotional material.

Depth-Oriented Perspective

Preparation can include attention to recurring patterns, relationships, dreams, symbolism, body awareness, and questions of meaning—not only the immediate details of the upcoming experience.

Continuity Before and After

If you choose to continue with integration counselling afterward, the work can build on an existing therapeutic relationship and the context already explored during preparation.

Grounded, Nonjudgmental Support

The process is collaborative and paced around what feels relevant to you, without pressure to interpret your experience in a particular way or arrive at a predetermined conclusion.

WHAT TO EXPECT

What a Psychedelic Preparation Session Looks Like

Preparation sessions are collaborative and shaped around your individual circumstances. There is no fixed script or single way you are expected to prepare.

Start With Your Context

We begin with what is bringing you to the experience, what has led up to it, and what feels most important in your life right now.

Explore What You’re Bringing Into It

Together, we can look at your intentions, expectations, fears, emotional state, personal history, relationships, and any recurring themes or patterns that may feel relevant.

Build Greater Psychological Grounding

The work can include developing more awareness of your emotional and bodily responses, clarifying what support you may need, and making space for uncertainty without forcing a particular outcome.

Think Ahead to Integration

We can also consider what support, reflection, or therapeutic work may be helpful after the experience, so integration does not begin only once the experience is over.

The pace and focus of each session depend on you. Preparation is not about following a formula—it is about creating space to understand yourself more clearly before the experience.

A CLEAR BOUNDARY

Psychological Support Before and After — Not Psychedelic Facilitation

Gaia Counselling provides psychological preparation and integration support.

This service does not include prescribing, supplying, administering, sourcing, or facilitating access to psychedelic substances.

The focus is on your psychological and emotional preparation before the experience, and on helping you reflect on and integrate what emerges afterward.

Clear boundaries are part of creating a professional, grounded, and trustworthy therapeutic space.

Real questions. Straight answers.

What is psychedelic preparation counselling?

  • Psychedelic preparation counselling is psychological and emotional support before an upcoming psychedelic experience. It gives you space to explore your intentions, expectations, concerns, personal history, current emotional state, and the support you may need before and after the experience.

How do I prepare psychologically for a psychedelic experience?

  • Psychological preparation can involve reflecting on why the experience matters to you, clarifying intentions, noticing expectations, exploring fears or unresolved material, and becoming more aware of your emotional and bodily responses. The goal is not to predict or control what will happen, but to approach the experience with greater awareness and grounding.

What happens during a psychedelic preparation session?

  • Sessions are collaborative and tailored to your circumstances. You may explore your motivations, hopes, concerns, relationships, personal history, recurring patterns, emotional readiness, and questions about the experience. Preparation can also include thinking ahead about integration and support afterward.

How many preparation sessions do I need?

  • There is no fixed number that is right for everyone. The amount of preparation that feels useful depends on your circumstances, previous experience, what you want to explore, and how much support you would like beforehand.

Can you help me set an intention for a psychedelic experience?

  • Yes. Intention setting can be part of preparation counselling. Rather than trying to create the “right” intention, the process can help you explore what is drawing you toward the experience and what feels meaningful, unresolved, or important in your life right now.

Do you provide or recommend psychedelic substances?

  • No. Gaia Counselling does not prescribe, supply, administer, source, recommend, or facilitate access to psychedelic substances. The service is focused on psychological preparation and post-experience integration.

Can I continue with psychedelic integration counselling afterward?

  • Yes. If it feels appropriate, you can continue working with Priscila after the experience. This allows the integration work to build on the therapeutic relationship and context already established during preparation.

Is psychedelic preparation counselling available online?

  • Yes. Sessions are offered online, allowing you to access preparation counselling from a private location that works for you.
